The Feed the Kids for Summer is a program that helps supplement food during the summer for students on the free/reduced breakfast and lunch program in MISD. Each student can receive a bag of food containing nutritious food that can be prepares without the use of an oven or stove. The bags are distributed each week through the students nearest food pantry. The program will operate from May 31 – August 9.
“The Journal of Nutrition” found that children are almost 20% more likely to fail at least one grade in school if they are not adequately nourished with proper food. Researchers behind the study determined that this could decrease the child’s lifetime income by 10% and lessen their quality of life.
How can I volunteer?
The feeding programs are divided into two different times:
- 10:00am until 11:00am – Unload and stage the food
- 6:00pm until 7:00pm – Bag the food and distribute to food pantries
For $75 you can make sure a child gets a meal everyday for the entire summer!
